Registration
Registration for the 2013-2014 school year will begin on Saturday, March 16, 2013, between the hours of 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. at the DVUSD district office located at 20402 N. 15th Avenue in Phoenix, AZ 85027 (northwest corner of 15th Avenue and Beardsley/101 Freeway). Gate will open at 7:00 a.m. Registration for the current school year is ongoing.
Employees of DVUSD may register on Friday, March 15, 2013, between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. at the district office. Employee identification or verification is required. Parents or legal guardians only are eligible for employee discount. After open registration, you may continue to register in person at the DVUSD District Office, 20402 N. 15th Avenue in Phoenix (map), from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is recommended that you call first for class availability in the program of your choice. (Summer hours may be observed during June and July. Please call for hours.)
Registration forms may be picked up in advance in the reception area of the District Office, from any of the schools offering this program, or click here to print registration forms from our website. The registration packet must be completed in its entirety and submitted along with one full month’s tuition plus the $40 registration fee, both of which are non-refundable (exact change required), at which time you will be issued a parent handbook. The balance of payments are then due on the 1st of the month, September through May. (Your registration includes an agreement signed by you stating you will read and adhere to the policies and procedures as outlined in this handbook.) Get the Preschool Parent Handbook here. You are considered registered once these requirements are met.

Age and Readiness Requirements for Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten
All children must be potty trained prior to enrolling. Preschool is for children age 3 as of August 31st of the current school year.
Pre-Kindergarten is for children age 4 as of August 31st. Children turning age 3 or 4 on or after September 1st will be subject to assessment prior to entering a program. A child who is assessed early into Preschool/Pre-K is not eligible for early entry into Kindergarten. DVUSD policy requires all students to be age 5 prior to September 1st of the current school year.
Desert Mountain and Desert Winds offer a combination program for 3-5 year olds; Mirage offers Preschool in the morning and Pre-Kindergarten in the afternoon. Boulder Creek HS, Greenbrier Elementary, Mountain Ridge HS and Sandra Day O’Connor HS all offer separate Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten classes for half or full day. All other locations are Pre-K.
All Community Education programs are solely funded through the tuition fees and therefore, are subject to minimum enrollment and may be cancelled if this is not met.
Philosophy and Goals
A child is a unique individual. Our preschools provide a play-based environment, which promotes the physical, mental, social, emotional, and creative development of each child. We encourage children to express their individuality by offering developmentally appropriate experiences that:
-
Encourage self-esteem and self-reliance
-
Develop an interest and joy in learning
-
Enhance communication skills
-
Support concept development
-
Develop fine and gross motor skills
-
Develop self control and responsibility
-
Encourage appropriate interactions with fellow preschoolers and adults
-
Teach problem solving and decision making skills
-
Encourage the child to have concern for others
-
Emphasize the cultural values and individual backgrounds of the home and family
We believe that young children are our most valuable resource for the future. We encourage active learning with opportunities for self esteem, enhancement, discovery and decision making in preparation for a successful transition into kindergarten.
Our programs assist children 3, 4, & 5 years old to grow academically, intellectually, socially and emotionally. They are designed to promote enjoyment through work and play, refine gross and fine motor skills, promote physical coordination and encourage creativity and development. Hours of operation vary by location.
